What do you enjoy most about teaching? I enjoy being with the students the most because I love to see what they are capable of doing. They always surprise me with their creativity and insights.

What do you find most challenging about teaching? Aside from the workload of grading essays in a timely manner, trying to overcome the negative views of public schools in today's world is probably the most challenging thing about being a teacher.

Best tip for new teachers: The main thing I would tell new teachers is to let the students see who you are, let them know you are human and can make mistakes; show them that you enjoy what you teach. Secondly, learn how to set boundaries between school and your personal life.

Best tip for career teachers: Initiatives come and go, but it's what we do in our classrooms that matters most. Focus on always doing right by your students, and you'll always be successful.

Favorite piece of advice for students: I tell my students to always be kind.

What does being a Gold Star Teacher mean to you? Being a gold star teacher affirms that I have made meaningful connections with my students, and it makes those tough days worth it. It is an honor to be recognized in the same category as many of my mentors and colleagues.
