What do you enjoy most about teaching? What I love most about teaching is the chance to be the ultimate supporter and the loudest cheerleader for my students! I want every single one of my kids to know that no matter where life takes them or what path they choose, I will always be in their corner, rooting for their success.

There is nothing more electrifying than connecting with my students and helping them discover their unique strengths so they can truly shine. My mission is to be the person for them that I needed most when I was their age. Having the opportunity to be that anchor and that champion for my kids is an honor I will cherish forever!

What do you find most challenging about teaching? I truly believe the most challenging part of teaching is that time always gets in the way. I definitely need a 25th hour in the day to hit everything on my list! :)

Best tip for new teachers: In this profession, every single morning is a fresh start! I’ve learned to never dwell on the setbacks, but to relentlessly hunt for the wins in every lesson and every connection. While there will always be challenges, the good days will always win. Take the tough moments with a grain of salt, but treat the breakthroughs like mounds of sugar!

Best tip for career teachers: Don't be afraid to change and try new things. Our students are our purpose and we need them as much as they need us.

Favorite piece of advice for students: Stay true to who you are in! Never let anyone bring you down and never be afraid to chase your dreams! You have one life to live, so make it the best!

What does being a Gold Star Teacher mean to you? Growing up right here in Waterloo, I watched the absolute titans of education earn this prestigious honor. To now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the very mentors who shaped me is a surreal, humbling experience that I’ll never forget.

My journey is paved by the incredible educators in our district—especially the powerhouse team at Central. I am the teacher I am today because they showed me what excellence looks like. Every late night, every ounce of extra effort, and every above and beyond moment is paid back in full the second I see a student’s face light up with a smile.

Being named a Gold Star Teacher is quite literally a dream come true. It is the greatest honor to have my passion recognized by the ones I love so dearly!
